American Airlines Blames Massive Cancellations on Labor and Bad Weather Condition

Airline companies like American and Southwest frantically require more employees to prevent a cancellation disaster during the upcoming busy holiday travel season.

American Airlines said on Saturday it has canceled more than 1,400 flights over the weekend due to personnel lacks and undesirable weather condition.

The U.S. airline stated it canceled 551 flights on Saturday, 480 flights on Sunday, in addition to 376 flights canceled on Friday. FlightAware, a flight tracking website, said American had likewise delayed more than 1,000 flights considering that Friday.

“With extra weather throughout the system, our staffing begins to run tight as team members end up out of their routine flight sequences,” the airline company stated in a declaration.

The company stated it expected to survive this duration of irregular operations soon.

Heading towards the busy vacation travel season, carriers are working to employ more staff members.

American Airlines stated it is increasing its staffing throughout all operations, with nearly 1,800 flight attendants returning from leave and more than 600 recently worked with flight attendants coming on board by the end of December.

Southwest also stated it was employing strongly, with the aim of having about 5,000 brand-new staff members by the end of this year.

Previously this month, Southwest canceled almost 2,400 flights over a three-day duration, blaming undesirable weather and air traffic problems in Florida.
