Singapore welcomed on Wednesday the very first travellers under an expanded quarantine-free programme, marking a huge action towards the aviation center restoring its international links, regardless of a sharp increase in its COVID-19 cases.
Singapore Airlines flights from Amsterdam and London arrived on Wednesday under the so-called vaccinated travel lanes (VTL).
“Yeah, that’s (a) perfect check out. It’s actually convenient,” stated Singapore resident Andrea Mullens, who returned from the Netherlands with her daughter, who will go back to school in Singapore.
“It’s a good thing taking place. I think travel in general is a bit tough at the minute.”
Husband Harald stated he would return to the Netherlands next week on company.
“I do appreciate that family can travel once again,” he said.
From today, the lanes will be encompassed immunized arrivals from Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Britain and the United States, who can get in Singapore without quarantine if they pass COVID-19 tests.
Singapore earlier opened the lane to arrivals from Germany and Brunei and will consist of South Korea from mid-November.
While Singapore is opening further, a recent increase in cases has triggered tighter measures in your area, including restricting celebrations to two individuals and only permitting vaccinated individuals to go into shopping malls.
Mask-wearing is also necessary, with some lawbreakers fined and even jailed for breaching COVID-19 guidelines.
On Monday, the United States encouraged citizens against travel to Singapore, raising its alert for the city-state to its greatest risk level.
Singapore saw a record 3,994 brand-new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, having tape-recorded more than 3,000 day-to-day infections in recent days. Most are asymptomatic or mild, with over 80% of the 5.45 million population vaccinated.
Singapore had, till recently, kept the virus mostly under control through border closures and rigorous contact-tracing and quarantining.
